ISMAR is governed by a an elected Council that includes an Executive Committee. The Council consists of 20 - 40 members representing different branches of magnetic resonance while also providing a balanced international and geographic distribution of researchers. The Council meets at least every three years, normally during major scientific meetings of the Society, and has deliberations in between via electronic media. The Executive Committee consists of the President, the immediate Past-President, the Vice-President, the Secretary-General and the Treasurer and conducts the day-to-day affairs of the society.
